About Us

THE FRIENDS OF THE DOVER COUNCIL ON AGING, a 501(c)3 organization, exists since 2010 to provide financial support to the Council on Aging.  While the COA works through its Board of Directors to implement programs with a limited budget appropriated each year by Town Meeting and supplementary funds from grants, the FRIENDS assists with beyond-budget expenses to expand and enhance the programs of the COA. Our fundraising efforts support educational and social activities such as Lifetime Learning classes, luncheons, and trips, as well as purchases for other recognized concerns of the COA.

Although we support both on-going programs and one-time purchases based on current and future needs of Dover’s seniors, it is the necessity for a Senior Center that has been our long-range objective. While the Town of Dover must address providing such a facility, the FRIENDS would aid with furnishings and expanded programs that such a Center could offer.

Currently, our Board is made up of ten Dover residents, not necessarily but primarily seniors.  This Board meets several times during the year at the COA’s office in the Caryl Community Center to plan and prepare for fundraising events, investigate recommended purchases, and authorize expending funds for COA needs.

The Friends of the Council on Aging are sponsoring two plaques to remember loved ones who have passed away and residents/organizations who have given their time and effort to provide for the well-being of Dover’s seniors.  These two plaques are mounted on the wall outside the Council on Aging office in the Caryl Community Center.  A donation would be appreciated if you wish to have a name placed on the “In Memory” plaque.  Please mail your donation to the Friend of the COA, P.O. Box 130, Dover MA 02030.  If you have the time, please stop by and see the names that have already been inscribed on these two plaques.
